Container terminal design factors influenced container terminal throughput performance, including terminal components such as the boundary, dispatcher, wharf, yard area, transporter parking lots, and network. PortML organized these factors into an XML file for simulation. While PortML facilitated computer searches, manual editing was difficult, prompting the development of PortML Studio.
This tool employed a "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) approach, allowing users to drag and drop components to design the terminal and easily edit specific factors.
