Upon discovering her Soviet background, Julia Nalivaiko's friends often ask, "What's it like?". To answer, she returned to Russia and Ukraine with Australian filmmaker Stuart McBratney. She interviewed the people and explored the landscapes. She met famous singers, homeless youths and retired soldiers. She dined at opulent restaurants, swigged home-distilled vodka, and revisited her childhood.
