Vanessa Sills is a writer at Westside Lifestyle Magazine in Portland, Oregon. In a bit of a rut, she decides to leave the city for a weekend and go to Thompson Lake with her friend Amber for a bit of rest and relaxation. While there, she meets reclusive author Martin Clayborne who has not given an interview or made a public appearance in five years. As a long-time fan of Clayborne's writing, Vanessa is eager to land an interview with him. Vanessa and Martin get off on the wrong foot and she discovers he is the most stubborn, difficult interview subject she's ever had. Martin agrees to an interview as long as Vanessa helps get things ready for the Founder's Day celebration in Thompson Lake. Vanessa extends her trip and over the course of a few weeks. She gets up early to run errands and finish projects with Martin all while asking him questions for her piece. As he opens up about his early career and why he walked away from the spotlight, she learns there is more to him than meets the eye and soon they start to fall for each other. Vanessa finally has her story, but it's time to go back to work in Portland. Will Vanessa be content back in Portland? Or has spending time with Martin inspired her to pursue something bigger with her writing?
