Set in Victorian England, The Nightcomers follows two orphans - Flora and Miles - as they are left by their tutor in a mansion, under the care of the elderly housekeeper Mrs Grose, the governess Miss Jessel, and the groundskeeper Peter Quint. When Grose attempts to have the master of the house fire Quint and Miss Jessel, the children hatch a sinister plot to keep them all together. A prequel to Henry James classic chiller The Turn Of The Screw, The Nightcomers is a thrilling and tense horror, that does well to pay its respects to what many see as the definitive interpretation of James' thriller: Jack Clayton's The Innocents (1961).
