This broadcast is the second in a series of six that have been recorded in the wonderful 18th century baroque castle Schloß Heidecksburg in Rudolstadt, Germany in 1999. The Chamber Orchestra of Toulouse will play Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Op. 40. It is a suite of five movements based on eighteenth century dance forms and was written in 1884 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of humanist playwright Ludvig Holberg. The work was originally composed for the piano, but Grieg later adapted it himself for string orchestra. Furthermore, Alain Moglia features as soloist in Saint-Saëns Sarabande, Op. 93. The episode concludes with Six preludes by neoclassical composer Jean Françaix.
