ALTHOUGH ALMOST ERASED FROM HISTORY by media and propaganda, there were two flag raisings on Iwo Jima that day. The first flag raising on Mount Suribachi signaled victory to the thousands of men fighting and dying on the island that day. The second American Flag raising created military celebrities that soon became poster boys for war bond sales. The original soldiers who raised the first American flag, risked their lives for freedom. Despite the importance, these men were never previously identified by the Marine Corps and later, misidentified in the public record. FORGOTTEN FLAG RAISERS is the controversial tale of two flags…one motivated a nation, the other inspired the brave men who fought for its freedom.
