Don Paolo, pastor of a small mountain town, is forced by a sudden illness to be hosted in the house of the pastor Giacomo, unaware of the fact that his daughter Anna is in love with the priest. Returning the interest of the young woman, Don Paolo seeks comfort and relief in the cardinal of the city but, on his return, he finds his community in turmoil for the organization of the exorcism of Anna.
