Mark Zimmermann would love to celebrate his 16th birthday with his new flame, Becky. Instead, he finds that his brother Thomas has been taken to the eerie world of the Black Tower, where a merciless beast, the Gryphon, rules. Mark gathers his courage and embarks on an epic rescue mission. He travels deep into the mines of the Black Tower with his co-worker and heavy metal expert Memo. Meanwhile, Becky tries to find out if this other world really exists. When she learns the truth about Mark, his family and the Black Tower, it's almost too late for him. Every adventure he goes on in the other world in order to reach his brother causes changes in Mark that he soon finds difficult to control.
