Each year, the Mississippi River Delta loses approximately 16,000 acres of wetlands. Without a mitigation strategy, the marine economy, oil and gas, and even the citizens of New Orleans will be seeking refuge elsewhere in 30 years or so. In terms of sea-level rise, it is the canary in the coal mine for what is likely to happen across the coastal systems of the world if we remain complacent.
