Into the Woods, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, was first performed in 1986. Fairy tales teach us a black and white view of life, right and wrong. Into the Woods explores what happens after the ‘happily ever after’. Desperate for a child, the Baker and his wife are sent on a quest by a Witch, who promises them their wish if they can do as she asks. Along the way we meet other famous characters, their stories overlapping, finding out how children grow up, how adults learn, and where life can take us.
