Sir Simon Rattle conducts the Berliner Philharmonic in music by George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein in this concert celebration of Americana from the Waldbühne theatre, based on the amphitheater in the ancient Greek city of Epidaurus and remains one of Berlin's favorite open air concert venues, with magnificent views of the stage. The concert features the talents of soloists as Willard White, Cynthia Haymon, Damon Evans, Cynthia Clarey, Marietta Simpson and Daniel Washington. On the program are songs from Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, as well as interpretations of ‘Rhapsody in Blue’, ‘I got Rhythm’. The concert begins with Bernstein's Candide Overture.
