The 75th Anniversary Peabody Awards, hosted by Peabody Award winner Keegan-Michael Key, is a special TV event celebrating excellence in media and stories that matter. The two-hour special, taped May 21st, 2016 at New York’s historic Cipriani Wall Street, honors the elite circle of Peabody Award winners from radio, television and the ever-evolving world of online digital content. The star-studded event features special guest appearances by Stephen Colbert, Fred Armisen, Ira Glass, Shonda Rhimes, Bryant Gumbel, and the legendary Steve Martin. The true stars of the night were the 2016 honorees including Netflix’s Master of None, Amazon Video’s Transparent, HBO’s Going Clear and The Jinx, amongst others. This year, special honors were given to Individual Award recipients David Letterman, celebrating a career spanning over 30 years in television, and auteur Stanley Nelson for his culturally significant documentary films. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was also recognized with the Institutional Award for its achievements in irreverent, yet groundbreaking reporting. The TV special, premiering June 6th on Pivot, captures the essence of what it means to be a Peabody winner and celebrates the creators, ranging from small local news organizations to internationally recognized television studios, whose content makes an impact on the world at large. All these honorees and special guests came together to celebrate a historic 75 years of stories that matter.The George Foster Peabody Award is considered among the most prestigious prizes in broadcast media. Recognizing distinguished achievement and meritorious service around the world by television, radio and Internet producers, the Peabody’s are administered by University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Winners are selected by the Peabody board, a 17-member panel of distinguished academics, television critics, industry practitioners and experts in culture and the arts.
