A crumbling grand hotel, two women with secrets and a dangerous political situation about to boil over set the stage in this intriguing period drama based on the prize winning novel by J.G. Farrell. Injured in the First World War and discharged from the British Army, Major Brendan Archer (Ian Charleson - Chariots of Fire) arrives in Ireland in 1919 to reunite with his fiancée, Angela, the daughter of the eccentric owner of the Majestic Hotel (Ian Richardson - House of Cards). Sadly, the hotel is a decaying shadow of its former self and, as the Major soon discovers, so is Angela. Offered no explanations and baffled by the changes, Archer's attentions are soon drawn to her attractive friend, Sarah Devlin, a passionate Irish nationalist with a lively, but confusing personality.
