Bhutan is a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas' east, with Tibet (China) to the north and Assam (India) to the south. It is a land of monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs) of exquisite unified architecture, and dramatic topography ranging from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. In Part 1 we visit the capital Thimphu and attend one full day of the spectacular 4 day Tshechu festival.
