Alexander finally met his match, the monsoon rains. His troops refused to go on, so he returned to the new capital of his empire, Babylon. But the 2 year return march took its toll on Alexander. He died in Babylon and his generals immediately carved up his empire. The Greek world which survived Alexander was profoundly different from the world which preceded him. A lecture by Dr. W. J.
