Joel Hierrezuelo Balart is Cuban multi-instrumentalist. Growing up in a musical family, Joel studied percussion, guitar, and singing. At the age of twelve, he was already singing and playing in amateur bands. He later graduated as a music teacher at the Higher Pedagogical Institute of Havana. Hirrezuelo describes “Zapateo Suite” as the story of his career and the musical influences from his career, especially jazz and world music. It can be viewed as the musician’s personal story of Cuban music that draws from his traditional roots and African music traditions.
