This Sundance Award winner follows nineteen year old Alice. Fed up with her small-town New England life, dead-end job and an embarassing mother, Alice takes off in her car to follow her well-off friend down to Florida. Not long into her escape, things go wrong and her car breaks down on the highway. Either it's just bad luck or was the engine sabotaged at a rest stop by a couple guys who bugged her on the road? Two Good Samaritans, Sandra and Bill, seem to appear out of nowhere and offer her a ride the rest of the way south. They are a middle-aged snowbird couple traveling the country in an RV. Sandra takes Alice in as if she were her own daughter, gets her hair done, buys her clothes and Alice happily accepts the attention from this surrogate family. But as the highway miles slowly pass, Alice begins to figure out that things aren't always what they seem to be. The couple have a business they secretly run out of the RV. Hiding secrets herself, Alice finds her self suddenly off-course. On a journey where Alice finds a few things along the way - nothing is so important as what she finds about herself and a mother's love.
