In a nightmarish Thatcherite near-future, disenchanted youths Winston, a black trainee-draughtsman, and Eddie, who's white and unemployed, head off on a raucous road trip journey of self-discovery to the north of England. This impressive, ambitious and distinctly unconventional class struggle drama boasts a splendidly sultry sax-led score by Keith Donald. Director Barry Bliss intended the film to "show the vitality and strength" of the working class as an "answer to the pessimism which prevails in certain liberal circles". It was shot on location in London and the North East - notably in Chopwell, famously known as Little Moscow because of the community's overt militancy during the General Strike.
