Betram Oliphant West (Jim Dale) is spurned by his friends and, more importantly by Lady Jane (Angela Douglas) for committing a social blunder and tries to bury his shame by enlisting in the Foreign Legion. Life in the Legion under Commandant Burger (Kenneth Williams) and his adjutant Captain Le Pice (Charles Hawtrey) is no bed of roses with Sheik Abdul Abulbul (Bernard Bresslaw) and his Touaregs, a constant menace to the authorities. Visit a cafe run by his acquaintance, Zigzig, Bertram is enchanted by Corktip a dancer (Anita Harris) who, prompted by Abdul, lures them to her house where they are held captive. When Lady Jane arrives at the barracks to meet an old and valued friend in Burger she is directed to the cafe, but after being reunited with Bo he is horrified to discover that Abdul is captivated by her beauty and intends to make her his thirteenth wife. Nocker learns that Abdul is to attack the Legion fort and manages to escape and persuade the Commandant to organise a relief force. After an arduous march they find they are too late. The rest of the garrison has been wiped out and the victory celebrations include the impending marriage of Abdul to Lady Jane.
