Bhutan is a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas' eastern edge with Tibet (China) to the north and Assam (India) to the south. It is a land of monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs) of exquisite unified architecture, and dramatic topography ranging from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys.
