The subject of this film is the decimal system, named after the Latin for "ten", "decem". The basic principles of counting and writing numbers in different cultures are described here. It is thanks to an Arabic mathematician who wrote the book "On the Calculation with Hindu Numerals" in 825 that the decimal system and the written basic arithmetic methods ever spread as far as Europe.
