Young Tilly Bassett is uprooted from her New Hampshire farm by her grandmother, Isabella, determined to make Tilly's dream of becoming a writer come true. Just before Christmas, they're in Dublin, where Tilly is to become the protégé to Ireland's Poet Laureate, and if all goes well, wife to the old man's cynical son. But Tilly soon paves a different course of action altogether.
