The Commandant's Shadow tells the story of Rudolf Höß' 87-year-old son Hans Jürgen Höss, who comes to terms with his father's cruel legacy. Rudolf Höß was commandant of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp and responsible for the murder of more than a million Jews. The lives of Höß and his family were recently portrayed in the Oscar®-winning film "The Zone of Interest." Now "The Commander's Shadow" reports on the real people who lived in Höß's death camp. While Hans Jürgen Höss enjoyed a happy childhood in Auschwitz, Jewish prisoner Anita Lasker-Wallfisch fought for survival. For the first time, a descendant of a major war criminal and a survivor meet intimately in Lasker-Wallfisch's London living room. Together with their children, Kai Höss and Maya Lasker-Wallfisch, they confront the burdens of their origins.
