Set during prohibition in the backwoods country of Florida, Mattie (Dana Preu) is a middle-aged widow who lives alone in the pinewoods. Enter Trax (David Peck), an untrustworthy, womanizer scamp with a gift of gab. Trax courts Mattie, who is old enough to be his mother, out of a need for money. Mattie is charmed as much by the transparency of his courtship as by his energy and youth.
