Ethan has been given an ultimatum by his religious mother at home in Michigan: give up being gay or get out. He uses this as an opportunity to follow his dream of going to Hollywood to become a famous actor, but soon after arriving and trusting people who want to take advantage of him, he finds himself spiraling into drugs, prostitution, and homelessness.
