Matatoshi Nakayama Sensei, one of the main disciples of the founder Gichin Funakoshi, and chief instructor of the JKA was one of the most prominent figures in the history and evolution of modern karate. A month before his death he welcomed Salvador Herraiz at his home in Tokyo and he gave the last interview in his life. In it Master Nakayama reviewed the key moments in the history of karate in his life, in the JKA, and also spoke of his philosophy and the dangers that lurk in karate for the excessive and wrong competitive and sportive approach. Nakayama was undoubtedly the father of JKA until his death, and after his passing, the organization was divided into two branches. The union disappeared with his passing.
